The philosophy of designing physical objects, the built environment, and services to comply with the principles of social, economic, and ecological sustainability.

 

The intention of sustainable design is to “eliminate negative environmental impact completely through skillful, sensitive design”. Manifestations of sustainable design require renewable resources, impact the environment minimally, and connect people with the natural environment.

Beyond the “elimination of negative environmental impact”, sustainable design must create projects that are meaningful innovations that can shift behaviour. A dynamic balance between economy and society, intended to generate long-term relationships between user and object/service and finally to be respectful and mindful of the environmental and social differences.

KAE do not distinguish between Engineers and ESD practitioners. Both have the same vision.

Yes, we have staff that are more suited to modelling programs …but to get accurate results, a deep understanding of the fundamental science of buildings and how systems actually operated is required from all staffs.

BASIXS

The NSW Government requires a BASIX (Building Sustainability Index)  Certificate to be submitted as part of all new residential development applications. In NSW, BASIX supersedes Parts 2.6 and 3.12 Energy Efficiency of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) for Class 1 developments, and supports Section J of the BCA for Class 2 and Class 4 developments.

BCA Section J Report

For non-residential buildings a BCA Section J report needs to be compiled in order to show building’s compliance with the requirements of the BCA Section J, Energy Efficiency.

NCC JV3 Report

Where deviation from DTS NCC section J requirements, is required, we provide the modelling and reporting. Typically we will utilise software packages from IES, Design Builder or Energy Plus.

NABERS

NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) is a performance based rating system that measures an existing building’s environmental performance during its operation. NABERS rates a building on the basis of its measured operational impacts which include energy, water, waste and indoor environment. It now incorporates the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR), which has been renamed NABERSEnergy for offices.

ENERGY AUDITS

KAE have, in house, highly technical and experienced engineers versed in all aspects of system design and operation. Our Engineers will attend your site and provide a comprehensive systems and energy audit. Our audit report will detail all the options available to you, to reduce energy, in a simple ranking table allowing you to easily make decisions based on financial outlay and return on your outlay.

Where required we will provide electrical and water meters to refine our analysis.

Our reporting will cover off on available grants and government funding available for energy improvement projects.
